[Gemini Update] Use Gemini in Google Drive to Interact with Folders in 20+ Additional Languages

What’s changing?

Last year, we added support for folders in Gemini in the Google Drive side panel.
We’re now announcing that this feature is available in the following languages:

Korean

Arabic / Catalan/Valencian / Swedish / Czech / Dutch / Finnish / French / German / Greek / Hungarian / Indonesian / Italian / Japanese / Malay / Chinese / Hebrew / Norwegian / Polish / Portuguese / Romanian / Russian / Spanish / Danish / Thai / Turkish / Ukrainian / Vietnamese

With Gemini, you can now ask questions in Google Drive such as:

“Summarize the files in @-folder”
“What are the topics covered in the content of @-folder?”
“Based on the files in @-folder, when is the deadline?”

Additional information

Gemini can only answer questions about text documents, PDFs, spreadsheets, and presentations.

Getting started

Admins:
Smart features and personalization must be turned on for users to use Gemini in the side panel of Workspace apps. Admins can turn on the feature as a default setting in the Admin console.

End users:
If Gemini in the side panel is closed:

Navigate to a folder and click the ‘Summarize this folder’ button, or
Right click a folder from the document list and select “Ask Gemini”, or
Select a folder from the document list and click “Summarize this folder” from the top toolbar

If Gemini in the side panel is open:

Drag a folder from the document list and drop it into the side panel, or
@-mention a folder in the side panel input box

If you are searching for a folder:

Click the Gemini icon next to the folder in the search dropdown menu

Rapid Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on May 12, 2025
